It’s time for an update on the Army’s migration to Enterprise Email (EE).   This migration is one of our main efforts and also a pacing item for Army IT consolidation and modernization.

We have migrated over 70K users so far. I, LTG Lawrence, and the NETCOM Commanding General, MG Napper, along with our organizations were early adopters and have been using EE for over 4 months. ARCYBER Headquarters migrated in May.

Let me share what we've learned to date:

On May 23rd, LTG Lawrence joined the Army Vice Chief of Staff, GEN Peter Chiarelli, in talking to the media about what I consider to be one of the biggest challenges, albeit opportunity, to influence change in how we command and control our Army – delivering the Global Network Enterprise. Also present were two of our most important partners in this effort, MG James Barclay, Deputy G-3/5/7, and MG Keith Walker from the Brigade Modernization Command at Fort Bliss Texas.
From our posts, camps, and stations to the tactical edge, we must get Soldiers, civilians, and mission partners the information they need, when they need it and in any environment. To do so, we must deliver an integrated and interoperable network, from the highest echelon to the lowest, forming a true enterprise network.

I was thrilled when I learned I was selected to be the Senior Enlisted Adviser to the CIO/G-6. These first two months have proven to be as exciting and rewarding as I anticipated. I’ve particularly enjoyed the time spent with past and present Signal Corps senior officers and non-commissioned officers discussing the state of the regiment.

This blog discusses my focus areas while serving as the Senior Enlisted Adviser to the CIO/G-6.

Krieger portraitOn March 31st and April 1st, I had the distinct pleasure of discussing how we are implementing our vision for the network with past and present Signal senior leaders at the 2011 Signal General Officer and Senior Executive Summit.

Here’s an abbreviated version of what I said about Enterprise Email.  The BLUF is we’ve had some challenges but remain on track to migrate the rest of the Army by the end of year. And most importantly, feedback from users on enterprise email has been overwhelmingly positive.
As of April 1, approximately 2,300 users have been migrated to the DISA-provided email service.  Per the plan, they include personnel from CIO/G-6, NETCOM/9th Sig Command SC(A), 7th Signal Command, and the Research, Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM). The new CIO/G-6, LTG Lawrence, and her Senior Enlisted Advisor, Sergeant Major McCrary have been on enterprise email since their arrival. All across the Signal/IT Community, our leaders continue to be completely committed to the cause. This is a good thing because we’ve had to work through a number of challenges.
