At the end of October I close a chapter in my public service life and begin a new journey with my wife Shirley.

I have loved being the Army Deputy CIO/G-6 or DCIO. I've enjoyed my six years immensely, and am proud of the Army's Network modernization accomplishments. The wonderful thing about being part of the Army IT team is that we have some really hard IT and network challenges to resolve. And I find that solving the hard problems is fun and very rewarding. I also get to work with the smartest and most dedicated and responsive Soldiers, airman, sailors, marines, Army and DoD Civilians, and support contractors in the world. I've said many times that I'd do this job for free, and I still feel that way.

WASHINGTON (Sept. 3, 2014) -- October is Army Cybersecurity Awareness Month, our annual campaign to reenergize our focus on cybersecurity policies, practices and training that improve the Army’s overall readiness posture. I’m asked often if the awareness month is still useful given recent media attention of large data breaches and the year-round focus on cybersecurity. My answer from a leader’s perspective: Absolutely! Never underestimate the power of a little awareness. Six months ago, I didn’t know a single person who dumped a bucket of ice water on their head for any reason. Today the #ALSicebucketchallenge, started by a single person has raised millions and global awareness to combat a horrendous and relentless disease.
