Operations & Architecture

Mission

The Operations and Architecture Directorate drives innovation and modernization across the Army by developing and maintaining an integrated enterprise architecture, propagating data and service standards, and applying comprehensive program management rigor to IT investments.

Functions

  • Facilitate the modernization of Army IT environment by overseeing enterprise-wide transformation projects. Current projects include establishment of the Enterprise Computing Environment, migration to Windows 10, rationalization and migration of applications to enterprise data centers and commercial cloud, Joint Regional Security Stack (JRSS) deployment, enterprise network infrastructure update and convergence, and the consolidation of data centers
  • Develop and integrate a standards based, end-to-end architecture for the Army. Drive interoperability by identifying system touch points, recommending interface specifications, and ensuring compliance with data standards
  • Provide program and project oversight of CIO/G-6 funded activities, synchronize enterprise-wide IT initiatives such as enterprise network infrastructure updates and JRSS, and integrate project milestones into a comprehensive IT roadmap. Support Army senior leaders within HQDA and migration of HQDA applications from the Pentagon’s Joint Service Provider (JSP)
  • Develop hybrid cloud computing environments that provide an agile, resilient, secure application hosting environment that increasingly automates manual processes and decreases the total cost of IT operations. Cloud environment will set the foundation to apply advanced analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) to support warfighting and support missions
  • Manage and promulgate enterprise-wide IT standards for the Army. Assist with managing change requests to the DoD IT Standards Registry
  • Assist with technical deep dives, technical synchronization reviews (TSR), Quarterly Secure Video Teleconferences (SVTCs), Quarterly Workshops, and the Signal Forum
